The United States Postal Service

As the world encounters new changes, many other things are nearly forgotten. The world nearly seems to be run by technology. Whether its the phones, computers, or the internet itself. The United States Postal Service has been around for centuries, but sadly its service has seems to be over run by electronic mail. Due to this, the USPS has made the decision of cutting back its services. That is why I think the USPS should be reconstructed, so it can yet again meet the needs of a changing world.

If the United States Postal Service considers to restructure, there will be no worries that American Citizens will loose there jobs. In other words, it would be a great opportunity for more job positions for citizens. The USPS will show that its effort to keep Americans Citizens satisfied will even be more desirable.(Doc C) "At the end of the day, I'm convinced that if we make the changes that are necessary, we can continue to provide universal service for Americans for decades to come."

Sooner or later there will be one day when technology will fail. What would happen if technology was the only source of communication we have relied on, and the USPS was long forgotten. It would definitely be a major chaos to America. The USPS is a major importance to our nation, and millions of people depend on its service. The USPS should step up there game and remind citizens that it is a representation of America. There are many places people who do not have the advantage of having technology.(Doc G) Shows the Ochopee Post Office, the smallest free standing post office in the United States. Like they say, the smallest things can make  difference.  

The United States Postal Service needs to maintain there service on point. They should increase there hours or days in which they open. Or probably get more workers to work more shifts, and satisfy costumers.(Doc A) "At the end of the day, I'm convinced that if we make the changes that are necessary, we can continue to provide universal service to Americans for decades tom come."

In conclusion, technology might seem to overtake the world, but the USPS can never be forgotten.

Election

I'm running for the position of owner for Target. I am well qualified person for this job. I have my bachelors degree in business administration, so I know what it takes to have good management skills. I've gained many experiences on how to work with employees, and give them guidance. I encourage teamwork, for great success. This is a great opportunity to vote for me, you will not find anyone else with great leadership skills. I will give many people the chance of new jobs. I've been given the chance to make other businesses prosperous, and if I become manager of Target, I can achieve many great things. There is no need in looking for owner, because I am perfect for the position. I studied all my life to become this, and I truly believe I can make a difference, just I did to the other businesses. I'm very enthusiastic about my work ethic and sharing it with others. I will make sure my employees work hard and interact with costumers, for any need of assistance. I've seen many other businesses that forget that the costumers need to be treated right, and as owner I will make sure no person will be ignored.

What life is like in Holcomb, Kansas, before the murder is peaceful. Holcomb seems to be a place where nothing tragic would happen. The Clutter family are living there lives like normal people. People in the community are either working, or doing their own thing. In a community like Holcomb everyone seems to know each other, especially the Clutter family. After the murder everything seemed to change, especially in the community, many people are scared, they start to have trust issues on one another. They think the murderer is among them, and they go to an extreme where they start buying locks for their homes. Its just a shock to everyone the Clutter family, one of the most popular known families in the community are dead. Especially when the Clutter family is a nice family, and the community also believed if this happened to them, then it could definitely happen to one of them.

What is a "Death with Dignity ."

• "right to die" laws believe patients suffering should have the right to control the timing and circumstances of their deaths .

Is there a right to die?

• advocacy group compassion and choices has been lobbying for a ballot in California, that nearly two-thirds of the residents would support the election.
• People are resolve to have the option available.

How about the rest of the world?

• European nations are far more accepting of the "right to die."
• Assisted suicide is legal in switzerland, Germany, Albania, also Colombia, Japan, and Canadian province Quebec.
• In Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxemburg allow ill patients to be euthanized by a doctor.

Why does he say that?

• more than 40 people suffering from depression or mental illnesses requested and did get euthanasia
• Assisted deaths have gone up to 15 percent a year since 2008, may hit 6,000 this year.
• People living in the Netherlands do not have to qualify for euthanasia.

Will this happen in the United States?

Stance:

I believe Brittany Maynard has the right to choose if she wants to end her life due to her illness, but i don't think it would be a good idea for other states to adopt the Oregon Law. Other states should not adopt this law because, I feel so many people would take advantage of this law and make the wrong decisions. For example, people who have cancer, some would not want to wait if they will be cancer free in the future, they would loose hope, and just decide to end their lives with a law that prevents them from suffering.

Milton Snavely Hershey

Have you ever just sat there eating a Hershey bar and wondered, who created such an amazing tasteful candy bar? Its impressive how the Hershey Company came to be from a person who did not get a well education, but yet kept going to find success. Milton S. Hershey’s continuous effort in candy making was revealed through his early years, his drive for success, and winning the title “The Chocolate King.”

Born in September 3, 1857, in Derry Township, Pennsylvania, Milton S. Hershey being the only child was influenced by both of his parents. They both influenced him to perseverance and chasing dreams for success. Having this mindset, Hershey and his parents moved a lot throughout his childhood making Milton’s education limited and only enabled him up to the fourth grade. In 1871,at the age of fourteen, Milton was put to work to become a printer apprentice for a German-English newspaper, but working as a printer really did not fascinate him. In 1873, Hershey’s mother found him a new job. Milton Hershey became apprenticed to Joseph Royer, a Lancaster County confectioner, where he would learn to make candy(Polyak). Hershey then found his special interest for candy making.

Hershey decided to establish his first candy store at the age of eighteen in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. During that time, it was the anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, he knew people we going to come and so he took the opportunity to sell his candy. It was a chance to put his business out there and achieve that success. Unfortunately, after putting so much work into the store and having the support from his family, he knew that his store was a failure. After somewhat disappointed, he decided to move to Denver, Colorado, his dad was living there after the separation with his mother. Hershey had been told about the great prosperity in the West, so he set out to find it. Hershey learned new things living in Colorado, he learned the secret in making caramels with fresh milk. Following his new insight, he tried opening more businesses in Chicago, New Orleans, and New York, but yet success never came and those businesses became failures. Hershey struggled to maintain those businesses, he could never keep up with the bills, therefore leading to a definite downfall. Yet Hershey never seemed to give up, at the age of twenty-nine, he moved back to Pennsylvania and he opened the Lancaster Caramel Company. Although the Lancaster Caramel Company business ran slow, Hershey did not give up on it. Hershey did not have any capital just as the other businesses, but that was not the end of the caramel company. Four years later that business came to success. Hershey was shipping his caramels all over the country. The Lancaster Caramel Company became one of the leading manufacturers of caramel in the United States, and Hershey became a rich famous man.

Who knew a visit to the Columbian Exposition in Chicago would make someone’s life a turning point to an even more successful life. In 1893, Hershey attended the exposition, and was immediately hooked on a German chocolate making exhibit. He was captivated by the idea of chocolate making, so he purchased the equipment, shipped it back to the Lancaster Caramel company, and started making chocolate himself. Focusing on the chocolate making, he sold the Lancaster Caramel Company for one million dollars. That money was later used to start funding his new company, the Hershey Company. The Hershey Company would become one of the very well know chocolate making business in the world making fortunes. Hershey decided to build this factory on a farmland where he originally came from, Derry Township, Pennsylvania. It would become a new course in the candy industry. The location resulted quite beneficial, since the port cities could provide him with the cocoa beans and sugar. As well, the farm lands around would help him The construction of the Hershey Company began in 1894, and two years later was finished. It had also taken a while making the perfect recipe for making milk chocolate. Hershey only concentrated in making one specific milk chocolate bar called, “Nickel” bar, which was introduced in the 1900’s. Hershey priced the chocolate bar a nickel so people could afford purchasing it, and it turned out a success. Immediately there were rising sales, and the nickel bar also known as the Hershey bar, was a hit to America. The company also produced its famous Hershey Kisses, and each day about sixty million were produced. Later on more products such as the Hershey syrup, Hershey’s miniature chocolates, Hershey with almonds were also introduced. As the company grew so did his wealth, he had become the richest man. Hershey used the money to travel the world with his wife.

   Hershey also did good deeds for people, his success led him to create a community for his home region. Hershey created "Hersey Town "mostly for his employees. Milton Hershey philosophy included taking care of the workers in his employ ( Seebeck). In this town he built many things such as schools, parks, churches, recreational facilities, and of course housing for the employees that would be affordable. Hershey was the man of the people, when the Great Depression came around he did not let the community fall. The factory survived the Great Depression in the 1930's and it was still running strong afterwards ( Kudra).

One of the significant things Hershey did was build the Milton S. Hershey School, for orphaned boys in 1909. Hershey and his wife wanted the boys to have a stable home for them to live in and a good education. Hershey had a limited education but his successful life gave opportunity for those boys to have one, and have the privilege to learn. After knowing that they could not have any children, his ambition yet again was to help those in need and make a difference in their lives. Hershey always used his fortune to provide everyone with a positive difference.

In the final years of Hershey’s life there were sad and happy endings. In 1919 Hershey’s beloved wife passed away, it was an unexpected death. After the death he decided to give all of his fortune made from his Hershey company to the Hershey School. The estimated amount given towards the school was a total of sixty million dollars. In the ending years of his life he created more buildings in Hershey town so that men could keep working. He also supported the military during World War 2, by giving them chocolate bars called the “Ration Bars.” The Hershey Company produced more than a billion ration bars for the troops. Finally Milton Snavely Hershey passed away October 13, 1945 at the age of eighty. Hershey left behind a well known company, still known today as the Hershey Food Corporation selling and making millions of the iconic Hershey Bars in 90 countries around the world. There are attractions in Pennsylvania known as Hershey Park, Hershey Chocolate World, which has been created in New York, and Las Vegas, and a Hershey Museum. Places created to remember the “Chocolate King.”

In conclusion, Milton Snavely Hershey impacted the industry in candy making with the popular Hershey Bar. Growing up with limited education led him to prosper in what became his passion for chocolate making. His ambitions helped people who were in need, and who were in his position when he was growing up. Hershey clearly wanted to avoid them growing up just as he did. Milton S. Hershey’s continuous effort in candy making was revealed through his early years, his drive for success, and winning the title “The Chocolate King.”

Student Store Update

This past week went pretty good with the student store. On Monday, the locks that we needed to put on the refrigerator and cabinet were put on so that we can keep our merchandise safe.We talked to Silvia about the cash box that we had requested, and she had it already so that was good. We also made sure she had the key to the locks from the refrigerator and cabinet so we can have everything ready when we opened it. Then Wednesday was our opening of our store, it would be the first time we ever opened it, and it went really good. Some of the students arrived early and wanted to buy the merchandise, but we couldn't let them because it is against the rules to do so. So that is a problem for us, it would be better if we opened it right after school and not wait the thirty minutes, because all the students leave by then. Now we are trying to figure out if it is possible to actually open it right after school, it would be so much better. Jazmine, Irene, Julisa and I, have decided to open our store twice a week, every Tuesday and Wednesday. We hope we can keep our store running, and solve the issues that come across all of us.

                                                         Hell Description

Hell is an underworld of persecution and misery. It is the home of the most terrifying creature ever known. He lurks in the darkness, his red glowing eyes resemble the fire. It lies beneath the thick walls of fire, watching every soul grieve. Hell is a dungeon of no escape, with its demons and the unknown.

    The thick walls of fire burn with intense heat devouring every soul. The air is filled with an annoyance of smoke that never ends. Souls choke for air, others scream in agony, echoing through the various regions. There are cells that contain thousands of souls, ready to be tortured.

    Souls are punished for their crimes, and their unfaithfulness to god. They pay for all the sins and unacceptable choices. If they never wished to end in hell, they should have never thought of committing those crimes.

    Torture is the greatest physical torment of all. The souls never get used to the pain. They get burned over and over again, with the hot blazing flames. Their flesh melts off their bodies very slowly. Some roam around with legs, arms, or even heads missing. Other souls have their faces drained with misery, making every bone noticeable.

Demons perform all the torments to the souls. Every single torment performed fills them with excitement. They feel so powerful, there's not a single moment of hesitation. The demons are all black, they have claws that can rip anything in seconds. Their huge wings allows them to rapidly fly from one place to another.

Hell is everybody's worst nightmare. It is the place no one should think of ending up in. The creature that lurks in the darkness adores every soul who enters it’s dungeon. He, himself looks on earth choosing those who deserve, and should end up in his dungeon of misery, and pain.

Those who enter never come out, they are destined to spend all their lives in hell. The thick walls of fire expand every month, when more, and more souls are thrown in. Everyday new methods are created to torture souls, and everyday the pain and misery increases more and more.

 

Student Store Bar Update


 This week we were back on track with the Student Snack Bar, we were informed that
we could sell anything we wanted thirty minutes after school. So now we have been working on finishing the list of popular items to sell at the store. On Tuesday, went to Patty and asked her for letter heads for the donation letter we had done a while ago. She also helped us on reviewing our donation letter, and on Wednesday, we went back to her office and she printed out our donation letter request. We made a few copies so we could give out to the businesses, we plan to ask for donations. Since there are four of us working on the student snack store, we decided to split up, so Julisa, and Jazmine are going to focus on the silk screen. We thought it would be a great idea to incorporate a silk screen to our project.

         The story I'm currently reading is called," In Cold Blood." The book talks about a mystery going on about a family of four who were murdered. The book tells a side of the victims life and the side of the murders. The story takes place in Holcomb which is located in Kansas. Herb Clutter is a successful farmer in Holcomb, and he owns River Valley Farm. Herb as a wife named Bonnie, and two children living at home, Nancy that is sixteen, and Kenyon who is fifteen. They have other three children who live away.
        On the other hand, Dick and Perry are two mates who celled together at the Kansas State Penitentiary. Dick and Perry are on parole, and they are going on a long journey for there "score." They talk about the things they are getting before going on their journey, for example, stockings, a type of rope. This gives the reader an idea of what they are up to. They also mention that nobody will live to bear witness.
        Going back to the Clutters, Nancy likes this boy named Bobby and he goes one night to the Clutter's to spend time with Nancy, and its late at night and they are watching television. Bobby gets up to leave and in the story he describes every single thing he is doing. At last, when he is leaving the Clutters in his truck he notices someone waiting in the tree's waiting for him to leave.
              Dick and Perry arrive to Holcomb and they are trying to find the Clutter's residence, and they do.

             The next day, Sunday, Nancy Ewalt , a neighbor goes to the Clutter's to go to church. When she arrives she finds it unusual that none of the Clutter's are responding to her knocks, and she know there in their house because the cars are parked. She goes to Susan's house, Nancy's best friend and tells her about it, and so they both decide to go to the Clutter's again and go inside the house. Inside the house the two see Nancy's purse on the ground so they know she is in the house. The go up to her room and that's when they find Nancy dead. They run out screaming, and later on they find the whole family murdered.

               On Monday, October 20th, six out of the ten students in My Life Project got the opportunity to go to Fresno State. Our goal was to pitch our ideas to a class of entrepreneurs. The first time they had mentioned us going to Fresno State and pitching our ideas I thought it would be a great opportunity to get some help and get feedback. Dr. Audet was our driver, when we arrived to the recreation building, we met up with a professor whom we were going to pitch our ideas as well. The professor gave us a tour of the building and introduced us to some of his students who had their own businesses. We also met the main business director, he was very professional, and such a nice person. Then it came to the hour of going to the professors classroom to present our project ideas. The were so many students it was nerve raking, David presented first, Irene Julisa and I presented next. Once up there we felt good on what we were going to present. After we all finished presenting we were split into groups and the students in our group started to give us great feedback. They all understood our situation with the snack policy, and they were giving us different ideas to work around that situation. Leaving Fresno State was such a relief, the entrepreneurs gave us such great feedback, and we left with great ideas to work on our student store.

Updates on Student Store


This past week, we worked on painting the cabinet, we are only painting the edges of it. Also we still have a few adjustments to finish next week. On Thursday we had a meeting with Jeannie, she is in charged of ordering the school food and making sure the nutrition policies are met. She checked in with us and revised our snack survey. There was some restrictions to some of the items we had put down. So she gave us information about the school's policies of sugar and sodium. After a while we came to agreement that she would do more research in the things we could sell at our student store. After we have an idea of the things we could sell , we will seek donations.

This week we worked on finishing our donation cover letter, and some of us finished working on a survey for the student store to see what kind of merchandise students like the most. On Thursday we headed to the district office to talk to Belinda, so that she could inform us of the things we are able to sell, or can't sell in the student store. Mathew will be finishing the student store next week, and soon we will add other changes such as painting it and adding a sign. Our fundraising request form will go through the board next Wednesday, and if they approve it we will start seeking donations Thursday.

This past week we finished the fundraising application, and we are waiting for it to get approved from the school board. We also wrote a list of local businesses that we could get donations from. Along with that we made a donation cover letter that included the school tax ID number, and information about the my life school as a whole. Mathew finished sanding the wooden cabinet, and now he is making some new arrangements, he is adding a shelf, and on the doors he is going to put flip out tables. Some new ideas that we are doing is a survey with different snacks so that students can choose the ones they like the best. Our main focus now is getting the fundraising application approved, so that we could start the process of starting the student store.

During this week, the students and I involved with the student store continued to work on important tasks. Before we started the tasks, we had to create our individual timelines to show what our goals were to accomplish every week. This week one of our goals was to talk to the principal about a wooden cabinet that we could possibly use for our store. We got the permission to utilize it as our booth to sell merchandise, this made it easier for us because we wouldn't have had to spend a long time building a booth from scratch. We also mentioned a storage room to keep the merchandise safe. One of the students who was going to build the booth, will now work on the wooden cabinet to make some great new adjustments. The last thing we are focusing on this week is filling out a fund raising application so we can have the approval by the school board to sell merchandise.

12.3.1. Performance Standard:

Explain how civil society provides opportunities for individuals to associate for social, cultural, religious, economic, and political purposes.

Having the opportunity to open a student store is beneficial to the students socially, and to the high school economically. The student store will allow students to handle money responsibly, and also learn how to spend it on the merchandise, to make sure profit is being made. The profit being made by the store will go towards the school in general. In order to accomplish all of this, there are some things that we have to do, for example, fill a fundraiser application. Also students will have to socially contact teachers for ideas or questions about materials needed.

This week there were some tasks that we had to accomplish, some of them were still involved from last week. One of the first tasks we had to get done was our group projects, which were due on Tuesday. Basically, we started our proposal involving the student store, which we also had to present  to Ms. Pilcher and Mrs. Cervantes that same day. The last thing Irene, and I  did involving the skate park was make an outline based on who was accountable for what part. Also the students doing the skate park had to prepare for a school board meeting that was going to be held on Wednesday. There purpose was to tell them if they could use the tennis courts as a location to build the skate park. Going back to our group project, we focused more on some of the concerns we had, especially for the location. We needed to find a location were we could secure our merchandise. So what Irene and I did was we emailed Dr. Audet to advise us on the location. The last thing we focused on was finishing the book, "The Alchemist." Our goal is to finish it by this Friday, so that we could discuss everything about it.

Throughout this week the students of my life school refocused on the skate park grant. On Thursday, we had a visitor, Mrs.Rempp, who came to talk to us about the grants. She gave us two grants, one were it was going to take about two to three years, and one that was going to take one year. The Tony Hawk foundation was our best luck to try because its within a year, so now all the students in my life school are primarily focusing on getting the grant done. We have all decided that we would separate in groups and get different parts of the grant done, then when we would finish we would bring all the pieces back together. Our deadline for the grant is in January, so we have to work hard to make sure we get it done. We were also given contact information that would help us out. Another thing we worked on this week was our individual projects. There was a bit of a change, the students of my life project decided we would work in small groups to get the projects done. So a main project some of us are focusing on is the student store, and getting a proposal done.

Throughout the week students of my life school had to write about our individual interests, what are passions were, some of us already knew what our interest were, and some like me had no idea. I had a difficult time trying to figure out what I was passionate about because I really never thought of it. Some of the things that interest me is cooking, baking, and having a student store. Cooking, and baking is something I would like to do and have more experience in. I really don't bake at home but its something that interest me. The student store would be a great individual project that would benefit the school and students. There are many things I could incorporate in the store, for example, the baking, we could sell some goods, and also others who want to combine there passions could help with the store. Another thing we worked on this week were questions for a grant, we had to answer four questions, and also some of the other students worked on a application. We were also given a book called," The Alchemist." Its a very interesting book even though I have not been through it all, but I'm really looking forward to what will come next.

In the past days the students in My Life Project have been preparing for an important meeting about the skate park which was held Wednesday August 20th.  Everyone was in charge of different tasks. Some of us were researching information of how to write a proposal and others were writing the proposal. I was one of the students who was writing the proposal, and it was a challenge not just for me but for the rest of us who were writing it, because we only had less than a week. Also it was our first time writing a proposal, but thankfully we had guidance from a school aid. The day of the meeting some of the students went to propose the project to the water board. They came back with good news, but although we didn't get the grant, we got some great feedback.
